View from Decatur House

This photograph of the Decatur House's slave quarters, courtyard, and carriage house was taken on September 2, 2015 by Bruce White for the White House Historical Association. Built in the early 1820's the structure is one the few remaining slave quarters in an urban setting in the United States. The White House Historical Association and David M. Rubenstein National Center for White House History offer tours and educational programming to tell the story of the enslaved people who lived there.
